CNA Qualifications

Qualifications to be a CNA would be a high school diploma / GED, training on being a nursing assistant and taking the qualifications test for Certified Nursing Assistant. The CNA training would range from six weeks training up to twelve weeks. The CNA training can either be from a local institution or a local medical facility that offers a reputable training for CNA.

CNA Education

To get a Certified Nursing Assistant education, you will need to finish training class and obtain a certification. Length of training classes for CNA differs depending on the institution. The Red Cross provides an excellent class for CNA training.

Red Cross is one of the most reputable institutions that provide CNA training to individuals. Aside from the training facilities that would help them in teaching their students the proper healthcare and having students from class and straight to hands-on field work in 5 weeks, they are also recognized by both Federal and State government.

Long term healthcare facilities might be able to provide on-site CNA training. There are also institutions that would be able to offer free training to individuals who are willing to commit into working for that healthcare facility for a certain period of time after getting their certification.

A Registered Nurse would facilitate the training for CNA. The training would teach you the proper body mechanics for the patient. It would teach you how to properly turn, position, lift, feed, dress and bathe a patient. It would also cover topics as dealing with patients with depression, handling patients with dementia and controlling infectious diseases from spreading. It is always important in being a Certified Nursing Assistant to take into account the patient’s dignity. There are two parts of the training, the classroom training and the hands-on training.

Taking the CNA certification exam after your CNA Education

After the length of the training class, certification should be taken to determine a person’s competency in healthcare. The written part of the examination will include basic questions on healthcare covered in training. These would include the healthcare topics for individuals to be able to understand the clinical environment more, medical terminology, basic first aid, Nursing Fundamentals and how to respond to emergency situations.

The second part of the exam, which is the clinical part, would be to perform the nursing duties under facilitation of the person that would administer the exam. This is usually a highly qualified Registered Nurse. Important things noted may be on washing your hands properly, knocking on the door showing respect to the patient’s dignity and being able to explain properly to the patient the procedures before administering. This part of the exam is the most important things to be remembered by in being a CNA. Being able to administer these things properly would greatly help in your career.
