Certified Nursing Assistants allow patients to live more comfortably during their stay at a medical facility which could be in a hospital or home setting. Because of the demand of CNA’s worldwide, more and more people are enrolling to CNA schools to obtain certification. This is one of the ways to get into medical profession before finding a suitable job.
What is a Certified Nursing Assistant?
A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) differs in several ways from a nursing assistant or nursing aide. CNAs have completed a certified training program that would help them become prepared to handle the stress of assisting and monitoring patients. After successfully completing the training program, the assistant takes the certification and is registered under the state’s registry of nursing aides upon passing the test.
Education Requirements to Become a Certified Nursing Assistant:
Basic training and experience is required to become a certified nurse assistant. Students must be able to complete the CNA training program. This training program helps them develop the interpersonal skills to interact with patients and other health care professionals, learn the basics of healthcare, learn how to provide basic care to a patient who is unable to care for himself.
Certified Nursing Assistant Occupational Outlook:
According to those at College Board, www.collegeboard.com, government economists anticipate the job growth for nursing aides will increase faster than the average for all careers. As the elderly population increases, experts predict so will the need for nursing aides.
In the year 2006, Nursing, psychiatric, and other health aides reached up to 2.3 million jobs. But Nursing Aides held the most which is almost 1.4 million jobs. Home health aides held roughly 787,000 jobs, and psychiatric aides held about 62,000 jobs. About 52 percent of nursing aides worked at a home setting care facility and another 29 percent worked in hospitals. Health aides were mainly employed by home health care services, nursing and residential care facilities and social assistance agencies.
Forty seven percent of all psychiatric aides worked in hospitals, primarily with psychiatric and substance abuse. Some also worked in the psychiatric units of general medical and surgical hospitals. Others were employed in State government agencies; residential mental retardation, mental health, substance abuse facilities, nursing and residential care facilities.
There is a projection that in the following years to come, over all employments of health Aides will grow up to 28 percent between 2006 and 2016. This view proves that Health Aides employment is growing much faster than other professions. The growth will depend on the individual occupations. Home health Aides are expected to gain jobs faster because of high demand for home services. This is due to the aging population and moving-out patients. The preferences of the consumers in the home and other medical settings will also contribute to the ‘vast-growth” of CNA employment.
Employment of nursing aides is expected to increase for this occupation through until 2016, in response to the long-term care needs of an increasing elderly population. Increasing expense in hospitals would pressure the patient to discharge early and would boost the admissions to nursing care facilities. As a result, job openings will also increase in nursing and residential care facilities. Modern medical technology will also drive demand for nursing aides because as the technology saves and extends more lives, it increases the need for long-term care.
