Responsibilities of a CNA

CNA, are also called care givers, they are nursing assistants that help in the patient care of hospitals, clinics and elderly homes. A CNA is responsible in carrying out non-technical, oral and written direction for each patient. A CNA should have a good bedside manner and be able to get along well with the patient. The CNA should take into account the patient’s privacy when performing his/her duties. A CNA must have keen observation skills and be calm in handling the personal issues of each patient.

Requirements

The only requirement to get into a CNA Certification Program is a GED or high school diploma, completion of six to twelve weeks of training and certification from the State. CNA is the frontline of healthcare. You may want to start with CNA if you do not have a college education but would want to enter the medical field. You can work your way up from here and be a Registered Nurse by taking a few more courses.

Even the Red Cross offers training for CNA that is boasted with fast paced training and students entering the field after five weeks of training. The Red Cross CNA training is both recognized by Federal and State. Take note that not all institutions can be recognized by other States.

You will need to match the required training of the State to what you will actually be studying. Certification is also individual to each State so make sure that you are going to take certification in a State where you will be working.

The CNA Certification Program and its Parts

There are two parts of the CNA Certification Program. The written part where you will be taught with basic medical terminologies and healthcare techniques and there is also the hands-on part where you will be taught on body mechanics for invalid patients, monitoring patients for vital signs, proper administration of medical instruments, infection containment and so-fourth.

Both written and practical aspects of the training will be assessed when taking the certification test. The written exam is taken as a group and the hands-on exam is taken on a one on one basis where you will be tested and evaluated on proper health care and the basic practical requirements of being a CNA.
